Job fields are growing up for class of 2012

Now Job fields are growing up.
Jobs are looking up for the class of 2012!!

Employers surveyed by the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) say they plan to hire 9.5 percent more graduates from the class of 2012 than they did from the class of 2011.

Salary offers for recent college grads also continue to inch higher. Students landing jobs from this year's class will be paid more, on average, than the class of 2010. The NACE Fall 2011 Salary Survey shows that this year's class of graduates will make, on average, about 6 percent more than last year's graduates, from just over $48,000 to just over $51,000.

Students earning engineering degrees have seen some of the highest salary offers. As a group, the average salary offered to engineering majors rose 2.8 percent from last year's average, to $60,291. The average salary offered to petroleum engineering graduates grew 7.1 percent to $82,740, making it the highest-paid major, according to the report.

If you're still in college & looking to get a leg up on the competition, another NACE survey reveals that paid interns had the most success attracting job offers in 2011. "Class of 2011 graduates who took part in a paid internship were more likely to get a job offer, have a job in hand by the time they graduated, & receive a higher starting salary offer than their peers who undertook an unpaid internship or no internship at all," according to a NACE press release. More than 61 percent of students who took part in paid internships in the for-profit sector received a job offer.

Many of the openings for the class of 2012 are for "replacement hires," new employees brought in to fill the roles of existing employees who are leaving. In the report, employers expressed the greatest interest in graduates who majored in business, engineering, & tech-related subjects.

Two companies with extensive hiring plans, mostly based on new hires & not on attrition, are accounting firm Ernst & Young & Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Ernst & Young began a hiring campaign in July, in which it plans to hire 9,000 students from throughout the Americas. Some 5,200 of those hires will come from U.S. campuses. The company plans to hire for a mix of full-time positions (3,000 graduates) & interns (2,200) in the United States alone. This year marks a the first that Ernst & Young's campus hiring level has reached its per-recession highs. "There are a wide range of opportunities that are available," says Dan Black, director of campus recruiting for the Americas at Ernst & Young. He says the company is actively recruiting at about 200 college campuses throughout the Americas.

Car rental company Enterprise is also back to hiring levels in line with it is per-recession efforts. Marie Artim, Enterprise's senior vice president of talent acquisition, says the company plans to hire about 8,500 college graduates for its management training program for the fiscal year starting in August 2011. Artim says Enterprise generally promotes from within the company, & that many company executives, including herself, started in the management training program. [That is really the one way into the company is through our management training program,] Artim says. From there, it is our pipeline to our management path & our future leadership.

Ex-beauty queen gets $2 million FBI reward

A stray cat leads a former Miss Iceland to cross paths with crime boss "Whitey" Bulger & his girlfriend.
Former Miss Iceland got $2 million reward in Bulger case. Former Miss Iceland who met Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger & his girl friend in California was paid a $2 million reward for the tip that led to Bulger's arrest in June, the Boston Globe said on Sunday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation paid the reward money to Anna Bjornsdottir, a one-time model & Miss Iceland 1974 who had gotten to know Bulger's girl friend Catherine Greig after the two women both took a shared interest in a local stray cat while the fugitive couple hid out in Santa Monica.

Bulger & Greig had assumed new identities during more than a decade on the run from federal charges, & appeared to neighbors to be a modest retired couple.

But it was Bjornsdottir, the newspaper reported, who recognized Bulger in a news report this summer while she was back in Reykjavik & called authorities.

After the tip, Bulger & Greig were arrested in June without incident at their Santa Monica apartment building in June. Property records showed they moved into a two-bedroom unit in April 1998, playing $863 a month.

Authorities have said they found about 30 firearms & $822,000 in cash hidden in the walls of their apartment.
The FBI had said in September it had paid $2.1 million to "more than one individual" for information that led to the arrests of Bulger & Greig, but had not given more detail.

The newspaper reported Bjornsdottir had collected $2 million of the $2.1 million in FBI rewards for her tip.
A spokesman for the FBI's Boston office said he could not discuss people who gave the bureau information.

The murder of Meredith Kercher

The murder of Meredith Kercher occurred in Perugia, Italy, on 1 November 2007. Kercher, aged 21 at the time of her death, was a British university exchange student from Coulsdon, South London. She shared a flat with three other young women. She was sexually assaulted & stabbed repeatedly, & some of her property was stolen.

Rudy Guede, a resident of Perugia, was convicted on 28 October 2008 of the sexual assault & murder of Kercher. His fast-track conviction was upheld, & he is now serving a reduced sentence of 16 years. Also charged were Raffaele Sollecito, an Italian student, & Amanda Knox, an American exchange student & a flatmate of Kercher. Knox & Sollecito were convicted of sexual assault & murder in December 2009, & were given sentences of 26 & 25 years respectively. Knox & Sollecito appealed the verdict & an Italian appellate court reversed their convictions on 3 October 2011.

The trials, especially Knox's, have been the subject of news reports around the world, particularly in Italy, Britain & the United States. The coverage has been criticised for being tabloid in nature rather than presenting the evidence accurately & dispassionately.

Reactions to the case have been polarized between the view that Knox & Sollecito were innocent victims of a miscarriage of justice & the view that they were directly involved in Kercher's murder.

Sexual harassment claims - Details of Amanda Knox's life behind bars

Prison officials tricked the U.S. student by lying to her about a medical condition.

Amanda Knox, who has been in seclusion since her release from an Italian prison, is finally venturing out.
Her return to the public was no more than a trip to a store for toothpaste & a chocolate bar, but it was a deliciously simple act that had been denied her during her four years in an Italian prison.

Ironically, one of her last acts in prison was the inmate ritual of snapping her toothbrush & carrying it outside the walls of Capanne prison before throwing it away.
Knox's foray into the public comes as more details of her prison ordeal emerge, specifically how she was sexually harassed.

Knox's younger sister Deanna told ABC News that she saw the remnants of the harassment firsthand while visiting her sister in prison.

"There was something right in front of me & so I put my arm over it," Deanna Knox said.
Deanna Knox said she covered up scribbled words that read "Amanda is a whore."
On one occasion, a male guard reportedly entered Knox's cell alone, despite a policy against it, & made sexual remarks, ABC News has confirmed. On another occasion, a high ranking prison official allegedly ordered Knox into his office at night & wanted to talk about sex.

Amanda Knox Was Sexually Harassed in Prison
"I think the Italian courts...the first time around practically made sure that Amanda was going to be harassed in prison since they made her sex life so much of a focus of the first trial, " said Vanity Fair's Judy Bachrach who has covered the case extensively.

Shortly after her arrest, prison officials tricked Knox, falsely telling her that her medical check-up revealed that she was HIV positive & asked her for a list of lovers for health reasons. The list that a distraught Knox provided to officials was soon leaked & became headlines in tabloid newspapers.

"Please oh please," she wrote in her prison diary at the time. "Let it not be true. I don't want to die."

ABC News legal analyst Dan Abrams said that Knox could have the basis for a lawsuit but filing one would require a return to Italy.

Knox, 24, was released from prison earlier this month when she & her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 27, successfully appealed their murder conviction. They had been accused of murdering Knox's British roommate Meredith Kercher in a cottage the two women shared in Perugia, Italy.

Sollecito has not spoken publicly since his release but his father told the press that his son is getting used to being at home.

"It's as if he has been reborn & he is getting used to the simple things in life again, things that he has not been able to do for four years & this will take some time," said Francesco Sollecito.

Meanwhile, a juror who overturned Knox's conviction told Italy's state-run RAI television that he has no doubt that Knox & Sollecito are innocent.

"I saw the faces of these two kids, & they couldn't bluff. They didn't bluff. My point of view is that these kids weren't guilty. They weren't there," said Mauro Chialli.

Persona removed all CC cameras from spa & dress chenging room

 In side Persona Beautifuler>>

Persona beauty parlour says it has removed closed-circuit cameras from the service rooms of all its branches following a High Court order.

"Cameras at all the branches have been removed around 5pm [on Monday] after the court order," Persona's senior executive Nigar Sultana told coolblognews.com Monday night.

Asked if the cameras have indeed been removed as Nigar claimed, the beauty parlour's chief, Kaniz Almas Khan, in a text message to coolblognews.com said, 'Yes.'

A bench of justices Farid Ahmed and Sheikh Hassan Arif ordered the government on Monday to take out all such cameras following a writ petition filed earlier in the day by Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation chief executive Elina Khan.

The writ was filed after a doctor, who went to the parlour's Banani branch on Sept 30 for a spa, found a closed-circuit camera in her dressing room after she used it.

The woman made a verbal complaint with police and the media for filming her.

Earlier on Oct 1, Kaniz had told coolblognews.com that the cameras were there for security reasons and she did not think they were violating anyone's privacy.

Raging debates ensued on social networking sites such as Facebook over camera use in beauty parlours on security excuse.

A committee, headed by Gulshan zone additional deputy commissioner of police Nizamul Haque Mollah, is investigating the incident.

Persona has eight branches in Dhaka six for women and two for men and one in Chittagong.

In Monday's rule, the High Court also asked the government to explain why it would not be directed to formulate a policy for CC camera installation in beauty parlours.

Earlier, five lawyers of Dhaka judges' court served a legal notice on Kaniz over the incident.

Bieber’s New a Big Expense for Toy Maker

Justin Bieber's haircut costs man $100,000
When teen sensation Justin Bieber switched up his locks, it was bad news for one guy.

When Justin Bieber decided to change his hairstyle last February, Jay Foreman was not amused. The founder & CEO of toy manufacturer the Bridge Direct, estimates that Bieber's small change cost Foreman's company a big chunk of change, around $100,000.

His company makes dolls based on Bieber's likeness. Not surprisingly, the dolls (we refuse to call them action figures) are a huge hit with kids. Foreman related his tale of woe to CNN Money.

Foreman was sitting at his desk when he heard shrieks coming from his co-workers. They'd just learned that Bieber had changed his trademark haircut, rendering the company's hot-selling line of dolls outdated. Foreman had already begun manufacturing a new round of dolls with the star's original haircut.

Foreman says that there was nothing he could do at that point because the dolls were already being made. However, during the dolls' second run, he decided to change their hairstyle to reflect their real-life inspiration. The move, he estimates, cost his business around $100,000. But Foreman isn't bitter. He says those are the risks when you make products based on a celebrity.

It's no surprise that Bieber's haircut is one of the most popular styles in Yahoo! Search over the past month, but he isn't at the top of the charts. That title belongs to Tom Brady. The Patriots quarterback's haircut inspired more searches than any other celebrity 'do.

Tobias Vincent [Tobey] Maguire (born June 27, 1975) is an American actor. He began his career in the 1980s, & has since become best known for his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Spider-Man films.

Maguire was born in Santa Monica, California, the son of Wendy (née Brown), a secretary turned screenwriter & producer, & Vincent Maguire, a construction worker & cook. Maguire spent much of his childhood moving from town to town, living with each parent & other family members. During his childhood, Maguire entertained the idea of becoming a chef & to that end wanted to enroll in a home economics class as a sixth grader. His mother offered him US$100 to take a drama class instead, & Tobey agreed.

The nomadic nature of his school-age years began to take a toll on Maguire emotionally, & finally, after yet another relocation to yet another school, Maguire dropped out of his freshman year of high school & never returned, deciding to focus himself on his blossoming acting career. By 2000, Maguire had taken the General Educational Development (GED) to officially graduate from high school, noting that during his high school days, he'd reached a point where "I wasn't doing school. I was showing up, but...not really giving myself.
